Discover New Excess Insurance Flexibility with TripExcess®

May 14th, 2025

The excess insurance landscape for Motor Carriers has always been dynamic, requiring solutions tailored for flexibility, efficiency, and value.  That’s where TripExcess® has continually shined.  Originally addressing a critical gap in Trucking insurance, TripExcess® has revolutionized how agents and carriers approach excess coverage.  Today, we’re building on its success by introducing exciting new enhancements for 2025.

These updates bring even more flexibility and precision to excess insurance, helping Motor Carriers streamline operations and agents better serve their clients.  With the addition of Vehicle-Specific Coverage, updated policy wording, and a renewed commitment to clarity, TripExcess® is setting a new standard for the industry.

What’s New with TripExcess®?

Expanding from its initial trip-based coverage model, TripExcess® now introduces Vehicle-Specific Coverage.  This new feature lets Motor Carriers link excess insurance directly to a pulling unit’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

How does this change the game?  By covering multiple pick-ups and deliveries within a defined period, carriers can increase their load capacity and operational flexibility without the financial burden of an annual policy.  This ensures companies only pay for what they need when they need it.

For carriers managing fluctuating schedules and demands, the ability to secure coverage tied to a VIN rather than a single trip marks a shift toward greater adaptability and cost efficiency.

Key Policy and Document Updates for 2025

TripExcess® is also refined to provide even more clarity and confidence to agents and clients alike.

1) Clarity on Coverage

  • Updated wording now explicitly states that TripExcess® provides excess insurance over a Motor Carrier’s AL/GL and/or Cargo policies.  This change eliminates uncertainty, ensuring all stakeholders understand their coverage scope clearly.

2) Policy Modifications

  • Assault & Battery Exclusion has been introduced to align with modern industry standards.
  • Territory wording for compliance with ISO standards ensures standardized coverage for both trip-based and VIN-linked policies.
  • Excluded Commodities updates now precisely identify ineligible items, such as residential or corporate moving operations, modular homes, and structures.

These updates reduce compliance concerns for agents while offering clients a clear depiction of their coverage benefits.

Benefits That Agents and Motor Carriers Can Count On

TripExcess® has always been more than just an excess insurance product.  Since its inception, it has been a solution tailored for fast-paced trucking operations.

Highlights of What Agents Can Expect to Deliver to Clients:

  • On-Demand Coverage - With a seamless online portal, quoting, binding, and issuing certificates becomes a matter of minutes.  TripExcess® remains accessible anytime, offering convenience that traditional policies can’t match.
  • Cost-Effective Options - By allowing carriers to secure coverage for specific trips or vehicles, agents can deliver affordable solutions tailored to their operational needs.
  • Risk Mitigation - By shifting the coverage focus to Motor Carrier liability instead of shippers, TripExcess® reduces exposure to uninsured losses from subrogation claims.

Why the New Features Matter

These enhancements reflect insights gained from providing agents with a faster, streamlined process and empowering Motor Carriers to take on higher-paying loads without the constraints of long-term policies.  The emphasis on adaptability and clarity ensures that TripExcess® continues to serve as a vital tool for agents to build trust and deliver unmatched value to their clients.

April 30, 2025
April 30th, 2025 | When it comes to providing comprehensive financial protection for Owner Operator Truckers, Insurance Agents play a key role. Motor Carriers rely on you to recommend coverage that shields them from the unpredictable costs of workplace injuries. But what happens when policies fall short on critical components, like emergency medical transportation? This is where an Ambulance Sublimit can potentially lead to significant gaps in coverage—and why it may be something to avoid. At Workforce Insurance Underwriters, we're pushing past these limitations with our Truckers Occupational Accident Insurance policy, which does not sublimit ambulance expenses. Here's why that matters for you as an Insurance Agent and how this sets our coverage apart in a competitive landscape.

February 26th, 2025 | For an industry so heavily reliant on precision and planning, Trucking has a blind spot that many overlook—passenger safety. The scenario is the same whether it's a family member traveling with a driver, a friend sitting in during long hauls, or any other authorized passenger accompanying a trip. If an accident occurs, the financial and legal fallout can be catastrophic. Most traditional Occupational Accident Insurance policies provide very low limits and only cover passengers of Owner Operators. This can leave Motor Carriers exposed to potential lawsuits and crippling financial repercussions.
